River Search Called Off After Missing Teen Found At Hospital

SEYMOUR — A search for a missing teenager was called off Thursday night after the girl’s family told authorities she had been admitted to Danbury Hospital.

The girl’s family contacted police Thursday evening after discovering she wasn’t home. The 17-year-old teen sent messages to family members that made her family concerned for her mental well being.

The messages prompted police to start searching Roosevelt Drive along the shores of Housatonic River, and then the river itself. Seymour Police Chief Paul Satkowski said the Seymour Fire Department and Seymour Ambulance were called to the scene.

By 9:22 p.m. the parking lot in front of Chaves Bakery at 179 Roosevelt Drive was being used a command post for the search.

Two boats from Seymour FD, along with a boat from Derby and a boat from Oxford were on scene. Boats searched the river in case the teen was in the water. A drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera from the Woodbury Fire Department was flown in the air.

At about 10:30 p.m. the girl’s family said she might have checked into Danbury Hospital. That fact was confirmed at about 10:45 p.m.

We’re happy to report that,” Chief Satkowski said.
