ANSONIA — Police filed more than two dozen criminal charges against a Beacon Falls man apprehended after a wild chase Tuesday afternoon.
In a prepared statement, Lt. Patrick Lynch said the two-hour crime spree perpetrated by 21-year-old Anthony Rodriguez-Horvath began about 11 a.m. Tuesday (July 24), when he allegedly entered the home of a 90-year-old Clark Street man demanding the man’s car keys.
“When the male refused Rodriguez-Horvath knocked him to the ground, took the male’s wallet and car keys, ripped the house phone out of the wall, and then stole the male’s car,” Lynch said.
Sergeant Christopher Flynn spotted Rodriguez-Horvath on Woodlawn Avenue driving the stolen car, but when Flynn tried to stop him, Rodriguez-Horvath refused.
Instead, he sped away, at speeds in excess of 70 mph on North Main Street, so cops broke off the chase.
But cops didn’t have to wait long before being alerted again to Rodriguez-Horvath’s whereabouts.
“About 45 minutes after the pursuit there were multiple 911 calls reporting a male trying to break into cars in the Big Y parking lot on Main Street,” Lynch said. “Witnesses directed responding officers to Road Ready Used Cars on Main Street, where they found Rodriguez-Horvath in the parking lot of Road Ready. After a foot pursuit, Rodriguez-Horvath was taken into custody on Chestnut Street.”
Lynch said that while searching Rodriguez-Horvath police found a bag of marijuana in his mouth, as well as other narcotics in his possession.
“During the subsequent investigation it was learned that prior to committing the burglary and robbery on Clark Street Rodriguez-Horvath broke into a house on North State Street but did not take anything from the house,” Lynch said.
“It was also learned that after the burglary, robbery, and car pursuit, Rodriguez-Horvath abandoned the stolen car in the parking lot of 540 Main St., and then stole a Jeep Wrangler from Road Ready Used Cars,” Lynch said.
Rodriguez-Horvath allegedly abandoned the stolen Jeep in front of 252 Main St., walked back to the Big Y Shopping Center, and tried to break into two more cars before being chased from the lot and caught by police.
