Each year the Rotary Club receives numerous applications for its Scholarship essay competition. However, as the economy has tightened, more and more applications are being received. Through this dinner and other fundraising, the Seymour-Oxford Rotary Club hopes to increase its scholarship fund enabling it to provide at least two scholarships for one student of each town.
In addition to its fundraising efforts, in 2010 the Rotary Club of Seymour-Oxford created the Seymour-Oxford Rotary Club Scholarship Fund at the Valley Community Foundation (VCF). Once reaching maturity, the Fund will ensure perpetual scholarship awards for our communities’ students. Anyone may contribute to Rotary’s VCF Fund to help ensure future scholarships for Seymour and Oxford students. Those wishing to do so should contact the Valley Community Foundation at 203 – 751-9162 or by going online to www.valleyfoundation.org.
The Pasta and Meatball dinner is prepared and served by club members, their families, and community volunteers. The dinner’s recession-busting price of only $10 per person (children under 5 are free) includes three courses: buttery garlic bread, tossed green salad and soft drink to start, a generous entrée of ziti pasta with meatballs in a zesty marinara sauce, and choice of desserts with coffee or tea.
Those wanting more information or to purchase tickets may contact event chair Joyce Barcley at 203 – 881-0901 or jmb167@gmail.com.
