State police identified the man killed in a three-car crash Wednesday on Route 67 as Matthew Mihalcik, 23, of Beacon Falls.
Mihalcik was driving north on Route 67 and had stopped at the intersection of Governors Hill Road, when he was rear-ended by a man driving a Dodge Dakota, according to an accident summary report released by the state police.
Mihalcik’s car, a Plymouth Neon, was pushed into oncoming traffic on Route 67 and was struck by a woman driving a sport utility vehicle.
The accident happened about 11:20 a.m.
Police said Mihalcik was unresponsive at the scene, and was taken to Waterbury Hospital by Oxford Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV and her young child were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital as a precaution because the driver was pregnant, the report said.
The investigation continues at the scene.
The accident required police to shut down Route 67 in both directions for much of the day Wednesday. School officials sent out messages saying several school buses were expected to bring children home later as a result.
The Department of Environmental Protection also responded to the scene due to a fuel leak from one of the vehicles involved in the crash.
