A truck driver was injured after his rig rolled over on Route 34 during the height of the morning rush hour Monday.

The accident happened at about 8:20 a.m.

A 10-wheel truck, the kind that picks up and transports Dumpsters, was heading east with its boom-device in the air.

The boom got entangled in the bottom of the Route 8 overpass, causing a jarring crash that threw the truck onto its side.

Derby emergency crews cut the driver out of the truck and took him to St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven.

As of 9 a.m., a large tow truck was on the scene getting ready to turn the truck onto its wheels.

The crash created havoc during the morning rush hour. Police and fire police diverted eastbound traffic into the Derby train station. Commuters made their way up Water Street to get on Route 8 on Seymour Avenue.
