The Regional Water Authority will hold an informational meeting 6:30 p.m. July 30 at Derby Public Library to update residents on the planned 2 million gallon water tank to be built near Telescope Mountain.
The utility company has revised its plans since the original proposal was met with opposition from residents and public officials at a series of public hearings in front of the Derby Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this year.
Company officials said the water storage tank is needed to bolster the water supply and provide better fire protection for Derby. The city doesn’t have a back-up supply on the west side.
The company has a website explaining its side of the issue.
Derby officials, meanwhile, have been discussing whether it’s possible to purchase Telescope Mountain.
The Regional Water Authority’s revised plan moves the tank away from the peak of Telescope Mountain and changes access to the property to off Coon Hollow Road.
“The RWA has completely redesigned this project to address the concerns of its neighbors and customers,” RWA spokesperson Kate Powell said in a letter to Derby residents dated July 19.
Derby Public Library is at 313 Elizabeth St.
“We would like to take this opportunity to show you our plan and provide you updated information on this project. We will make sure there is ample time to address any questions you may have regarding the new design.”
“If you have neighbors or friends who may be interested in the project, please invite them to attend as well. Please feel free to contact me at 203 – 401-2738 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you have questions about this event or the project in general.”
