Another storefront was filled on Ansonia’s Main Street with the opening of T n J Hair Design Friday (April 25).
Mayor David Cassetti cut the ribbon to officially open the salon, at 375B Main St., congratulating owner Tom Boyd and Ashley Pavelko, an Ansonia resident and hairstylist who works at the salon, before promising them some business.
“I’ll be stopping by for a haircut,” Cassetti said.
Boyd then led the mayor inside for a brief tour of the shop, but first delivered a plea: “Don’t overtax me on this!”
Cassetti went along with the joke playfully: “Let’s see, how much inventory we got?” he wondered, casting his eye across the renovated space, which Boyd is renting from the owner of Koi, an Asian fusion restaurant next door.
Boyd, who is originally from Bridgeport, said he’s been cutting hair for four decades. For the last seven years he was based at a barber shop on East Main Street.
The new business has three employees, he said.
The salon is using space that for years was part of Pilgrim Bar-B-Que, a legendary downtown eatery that closed in 2011.
Boyd said he was glad to be part of the effort to revive the downtown area.
“A lot of these places were empty,” Boyd said.
“It’s good to be welcoming new businesses to Ansonia,” Cassetti said.
