On Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 8 a.m. until noon, Shelton High School will sponsor a Save-A-Suit drive in the SHS bus loop.
Save-A-Suit, a nonprofit organization that provides our former military and college graduates with professional business attire and the confidence needed to succeed, was an initiative that was founded in 2010 by Scott Sokolowski.
One thousand free suits have already been distributed.
Mrs. Rosemary Pagliaro, SHS English teacher, is setting up the drive.
She stated, “The veteran unemployment rate is over 30 percent. Our goal is to help veterans by providing professional attire for job interviews. We all know a first impression is important.”
Business suits for men and women, men’s ties, men and women’s dress shirts, and men and women’s dress shoes and belts will be collected.
Women’s skirts, tops, dresses, jeans, and men’s pants or blazers will not be accepted.
Clothing brought on a hanger would be helpful, but it is not a necessity. If the item happens to be in a dry cleaning bag, please leave it in that bag, so it can be identified as having been dry cleaned. Garment bags will also be collected at the drive.
Residents may also drop off monetary donations to be donated to Save-A-Suit.
Dr. Beth Smith, SHS Headmaster, commented, “This drive is a great community service activity for our students. A few hours spent in the bus loop can having a lasting effect on a suit recipient’s life. It is time for the Shelton community to clean out your closets and come to the bus loop on May 10. Your support of this project is appreciated.”
