A bus carrying elementary school students in Ansonia was sideswiped Thursday afternoon by another vehicle, which then fled the area.
EMTs were called to the scene to evaluate several of the students, but none were transported to the hospital.
The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. on Woodbridge Avenue near its intersection with Merritt Street.
Ansonia Police Lt. Andrew Cota said the bus was either slowing to take a turn or getting ready to drop off kids when it was sideswiped by a vehicle trying to pass it.
Police described the vehicle as a tan SUV.
The damage to the bus was not significant.
Susan Bosworth, a Woodbridge Avenue resident whose daughter was on the bus at the time, said speeders are a recurring problem.
“It’s just a bad road,” Bosworth said.
Police and EMS were clear of the scene about 3:30 p.m.
