School Employee Charged With Sexual Assault

The head cook at Emmett O’Brien Technical High School was charged Monday with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

Debra Anne Lasasso, a 1999 graduate of the school, is due in Derby Superior court Jan. 11 and New Haven Superior court Jan. 14.

The victim in the case is 17 years old. State police would not say much about the allegations, including whether the victim was male or female — or whether the victim was a student at the high school.

We don’t want the victim to be identified,” Lt. J. Paul Vance said.

The complaint originated from the Prindle Avenue school, but state police would not elaborate.

That’s just where the complaint was received,” Vance said.

Lasasso has two court dates because the alleged crimes happened at two locations in two different judicial districts. However, state police would not specify the towns where the crimes are alleged to have happened.

We wouldn’t define it that much because of the nature of the incident,” Vance said.

The victim in the case was not injured, according to a summary from state police.

Lasasso is free on a $500 bond. An e‑mail request for comment was sent to her Tuesday afternoon.

The specific statute cited by the state police in their summary indicates Lasasso had intercourse with the juvenile, that the juvenile was unable to consent to intercourse and that Lasasso was an authority figure to the victim.

Lasasso is on administrative leave, the Hartford Courant reported.
