The court case for Jerome “Jerry” Schwab’s DUI arrest has been continued until Sept. 3, while he and his lawyer wait for the results of a urine test administered the night of his arrest.
It’s the second continuation of the case.
Dominick Thomas, Schwab’s attorney, said he requested the delay so they had time to receive lab results that will indicate whether Schwab had a substance other than alcohol in his system the night of his arrest.
On July 3 Ansonia police arrested Schwab and charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive right and failure to obey a traffic signal.
Police said he failed sobriety tests given when they pulled Schwab over, but registered a zero on breathalyzer tests. Police then took a urine sample to be sent to the state toxicology lab for further testing.
Schwab, an Oxford Board of Education member and the executive director for the Oxford Ambulance Association, said he suffered from a bout of low blood sugar caused by the medical condition hypoglycemia.
According to the police report, when police asked him if he had anything to drink, he said he had two glasses of wine at dinner at 8 p.m. and had taken two Vicodin (pain medication) at dinner. The pain medication was for a knee injury he sustained three months ago, the report said.
Thomas said it could take several more weeks to receive the lab results.
