Scissors Celebrates New Spot in Downtown Ansonia

Some things are hair today and gone tomorrow.”

Not Scissors (Hair by Penny and Co.), a downtown beauty shop.

With the average small businesses owner still struggling from the national recession, Scissors owner Penny Marganski managed to keep her business alive — and in downtown Ansonia — by moving from 314 Main St. to 48 Bridge St.

The new store celebrated its official grand opening Saturday (Oct. 17) complete with a ribbon-cutting.

The new spot is smaller than the original location — where Scissors opened seven years ago.

Rather than cut back on employees because of the economy, Marganski decided to cut back on space.

We have a lot of loyal customers and I have a lot of faith in the downtown area of Ansonia rebuilding and livening up,” Marganski said.

The salon Saturday offered face-painting, refreshments and raffles of gift certificates to celebrate.

Stylist Brittany Trotta, of Guilford, likes the new location.

It’s a lot more cozy and better suited for our customers,” she said.

I like it, it’s comfortable and I’ll definitely be coming back,” said Cassie Venson, a longtime customer from Ansonia who came in for a haircut.

We’re pleased Scissors has decided to stay in Ansonia, it shows their commitment to the city. I’ve heard they have some great stylists and I look forward to their future success and continued business in our city,” said Ansonia mayor James Della Volpe, who honored the salon by cutting their commemorative ribbon.

Female customers can get a haircut for $17 at Scissors and men can get one for $16.

The salon also holds specials during the week — Tuesdays seniors get 10 percent off, Wednesday’s men can get a haircut for only $15 and Thursdays women can get a haircut and blowout for $25.
