Sen. Kelly: Data Breach Reported At Shelton Car Wash

FILEA car wash company with a location in Shelton warned customers to check their credit card bills after a data breach at several of its facilities.

According to a press release issued by state Sen. Kevin Kelly’s office Thursday, the breach affected about 1,400 people.

The breach occurred from February 28 to May 16 at six Splash Car Wash locations in Fairfield, Cos Cob, Shelton, Greenwich, Bridgeport and West Haven,” Kelly’s statement said.

The Shelton location is at 376 Bridgeport Ave.

The company advised all Splash patrons to check their credit card accounts for fraudulent activity,” the statement went on. If fraudulent activity is discovered, Splash advises people to contact their credit card company immediately.”

The breach did not affect customers who have unlimited” plans with Splash.

The company has engaged a third-party forensic investigator and sought guidance from banking institutions to remediate the source of the breach, Kelly said. Credit card systems at all 16 Splash Car Wash locations have been replaced by credit card readers verified as safe and provided by banking institutions.
