The Shelton Republican Town Committee will hold its annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner beginning at 6 p.m. this Saturday evening, April 16, 2016 at the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler Street, Shelton.
Two persons who are running to be the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, Connecticut State Representative Dan Carter and Businessman August Wolf will attend and address dinner attendees.
Themis Klarides, House Republican Leader and Connecticut State Representative for the 114th District, serving Derby, Orange and Woodbridge, will be the guest speaker at this year’s dinner and Shelton resident Joseph DeFilippo will be presented with the Gov. John Davis Lodge Award in recognition of his many years of service to the City of Shelton and Shelton’s Republican Town Committee.

Dan Carter is serving his third two-year term as State Representative for the 2nd District (Bethel, Danbury, Newtown and Redding). He is the Ranking Republican Leader of the legislature’s General Law Committee and member of the Education and Finance, Revenue & Bonding committees.
While in the State Legislature, Rep. Carter has supported bi-partisan legislation to give assistance to small businesses for growth and job creation and has fought overspending, tax increases and initiatives that inhibit job growth.
He also led the effort for ​“Learn Here, Live Here” which allows recent graduates of public colleges and vocational-technical high schools to set aside a portion of their state income tax liability for a first home down payment; reforms in the Family Court system, and to block a proposal allowing sex offenders and other violent criminals to earn credits towards early release for good behavior.
Rep. Carter has a B.A. degree in political science from Bowling Green University and a Master’s in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he joined the U.S. Air Force ROTC program. He was a C‑130 ​“Hercules” pilot, served in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm, served two tours in Bosnia with NATO and participated in U.S. drug interdiction programs in Central America. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal.
Rep. Carter, the father of two, is a member of the American Legion and VFW and volunteers on behalf of the Air Force to mentor students interested in pursuing military careers.
August Wolf, an Olympic athlete and businessman, has never been a government officeholder or a professional politician. Wolf entered the race for U.S. Senate because he understands the serious challenges facing Connecticut, and plans to use his competitive experience as an athlete and businessman to get results for Connecticut citizens.
Wolf grew up throughout the United States due to his father’s career in the Navy. He is a cum laude graduate of Princeton University, where he still holds the Ivy League record in shot put. After college, he trained in Germany to make the 1984 U.S. Olympic team and competed at the Los Angeles Games which were presided over by President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan. Wolf is an accomplished businessman with extensive experience as an entrepreneur in Germany, the Silicon Valley and New York City.
Wolf is a Trustee of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation and supports local and world-class athletes through his time and financial resources. He founded and leads the U.S. Athletic Trust, a sports non-government organization that champions college graduates in training for the Olympic Games.
The pride and joy of Wolf’s life are his four children; his three sons are college students and his daughter is a high school student.
