Sewer Fees Will Increase In Seymour

Sewer fees are on the rise in Seymour, but officials don’t know how much more you’ll have to pay.

John Fanotto, chairman of the town’s Water Pollution Control Authority, told Selectmen Tuesday that an increase is on the way. A precise dollar amount will be known in May, he said.

He attributed the increase to a sagging housing market, not enough new construction in town, among other factors. The WCPA is not getting revenue like it used to, Fanatto indicated.

After the rate increase in announced, there there will be a public hearing in June.

Fanatto said he could not give a ballpark estimate regarding how much more you’ll be paying.

I want to emphasize that there hasn’t been a rate increase in 11 years. How many other utilities can say that?,” Fanatto said after the
Selectmen meeting.

The typical home in Seymour pays $350 a year for sewer service, billed in two installments of $175.

Meanwhile, the amount of money collected from new home construction that uses sewer lines has dropped from $279,000 in 2006 — to $49,000 this past year, Fanotto said.

The WPCA operates the sewage treatment plant for the town.
