Seymour Standoff Suspect Arrested

Seymour police have arrested the 32-year-old man accused in a standoff with police at his Balance Rock Road home Tuesday (Sept. 13).

Christopher Nevers, of 50 Balance Rock Road, was charged with second-degree threatening, interfering with an officer and breach of peace.

He was arraigned at Derby Superior Court Thursday (Sept. 15).

He is being held on a $100,000 bond, according to Seymour Police Lt. Paul Satkowski.

Police went to Nevers’ home Tuesday after getting a report that he was sending threatening messages to his girlfriend, threatening to kill her and himself.

Nevers was alone in the home when police responded, police said, and he refused to let them in.

Nevers then allegedly threatened police and displayed an object under a shirt, as if he had a gun. There was no weapon found inside the home.

Police were able to Tase Nevers when he came to the door. He remained combative, police said, and was subsequently subdued by the department’s police dog, Raider. Police also used pepper spray on Nevers.

He was taken to Griffin Hospital for psychiatric evaluation Tuesday afternoon.

Nevers left the hospital Wednesday morning against medical advice, but Derby police were called to locate and return him. He does not face any charges for that incident.
