Clara Amodio, who will be turning 102 years old this week, is leaving the Seymour Housing Authority’s Callahan House after 22 years of residency.
Despite her age, she retains the wit and charming personality that has made her one of the most beloved residents at the Callahan House.
Amodio arrived at the facility shortly after its opening and has long been a fixture there.
Clara will be leaving to join her daughter in Pompano Beach, Florida after spending most of her life here in Connecticut. She is looking forward to sitting in the sun and watching the ships sail by, not to mention a much-deserved break from the harsh New England winters.
On Monday, First Selectman Kurt Miller and Director of Seymour Housing Authority David Keyser attended a farewell celebration organized by the head of the tenant association, Dominick Bellucci.
Bellucci, who had ample time to get to know Clara, describes her as sweet and funny, while Keyser called her “the ideal tenant.”
Clara, who has only recently been confined to a wheelchair, had all the residents laughing and smiling as they lined up to say goodbye to their friend and neighbor.
After having the opportunity to talk to her, Miler said, “What a pleasure it is to be invited today, though we’re sad to see Clara go.”
