SEYMOUR — Voters will head to the polls Thursday (April 28) to cast ballots on a proposed $62.4 million town and school budget for fiscal year 2022 – 2023.
Voting will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Seymour Community Center, 20 Pine St.
Voters face two questions:
a. Shall the Town General Government Budget, as recommended by the Board of Finance, of $25,146,426 for the fiscal year 2022 – 2023 be adopted?
b. Shall the Board of Education Budget, as recommended by the Board of Finance, of $37,228,136 for the Town of Seymour for fiscal year 2022 – 2023 be adopted?
If voters give their stamp of approval, the current mill rate of 34.71 mills would slightly increase to 35.59 mills. That translates to an increase of about $132 in taxes next year for a homeowner with a house assessed at $150,000.
The $25.1 million town side of the budget is about $1.3 million more than the current budget. The $37.2 million board of education budget is about $1.9 million more than the current budget.
The budget uses $400,000 from the town’s general fund balance to prevent a higher mill rate increase.
