
SEYMOUR — A third referendum on the Seymour town and school budgets is scheduled for 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 1.
The polling place is the Seymour Community Center at 20 Pine St.

The combined budgets total $64,201,844, which represents an overall increase of $1.8 million, or 2.93 percent, over the current budget.
That dollar amount includes:
$26,043,005 for the town budget
$38,158,839 for the school budget
If the budget is approved on June 1, the new mill rate will be 35.98, which is a mill rate increase of .39 mills. A single-family house assessed at $200,000 would pay $124 more in taxes next year.
The budgets rejected at the second referendum on May 18 had a mill rate increase of 1.01 mills.
After voters rejected the spending plans, the Seymour Board of Finance met on May 22 and voted to reduce the proposed school budget by $66,696 and the proposed town budget by $215,891.
Voters at the first referendum held May 4 rejected a $65. 2 million town and school budget. They shot down the $26.5 million town side of the budget by a vote of 801 – 519. They shot down the $38.6 million Seymour Board of Education by a vote of 847 – 473.
At the second referendum held May 18, voters rejected a reduced bottom line of $64. 5 million. Voters rejected the $26.3 million town side of the budget by a vote of 758 – 599. Voters rejected the $38.2 million Board of Education budget by a vote of 805 – 549.
At both previous referendums, about 9.5 percent of Seymour’s 12,000 registered voters cast ballots.
