The combined budgets total $64,484,434.
That dollar amount includes:
$26,258,896 for the town budget
$38,225,535 for the schools
If the budget is approved on May 18, the new mill rate will be 36.6, which is a mill rate increase of 1.01 mills. A single-family house assessed at $200,000 would pay $202 more in taxes next year.
The budgets rejected by May 4 had a mill rate increase of 1.59 mills.
After voters rejected the spending plans, the Seymour Board of Finance met on May 8 and voted to reduce the proposed school budget by $434,000 and the proposed town budget by $254,473.
If the school budget is approved, the school board will meet at some point to figure out how they’ll make the budget work with less money than originally requested at the start of the budget season.
The town has been using email, social media, robocalls and signs to let the public know about the second budget vote.
