SEYMOUR — Residents have the chance Tuesday to cast votes for or against the proposed town and school budgets.
A referendum is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Seymour Community Center, 20 Pine St. Click for a map.
The town’s mill rate is dropping from 36 to 34.71. The budget totals $59,178,558. That’s about 1.8 percent larger than the budget currently in place.
A homeowner with a house appraised at $150,000 would pay $136 less in taxes next year.
A lower mill rate doesn’t automatically mean lower tax bills for everyone.
It was a state-mandated revaluation year in Seymour, with new assessments being issued, so residents have to factor in their new assessment with the proposed mill rate to get a sense of whether their new tax bill will be lower, higher or the same.
Tuesday’s referendum in Seymour will include two questions. They are:
1. Shall the Town general government budget, as recommended by the Board of Finance, of $23,841,741 for the fiscal year 2021 – 2022 be adopted?
Yes ____
No ____
2. Shall the Board of Education budget, as recommended by the Board of Finance, of $35,363,817 for the Town of Seymour fiscal year 2021 – 2022 be adopted?
Yes ____
No ____
