At the regular meeting of the Seymour Democratic Town Committee held on Monday July 18, a discussion was held concerning the recent events in our country which include violence, shootings and police involvement.
Out of this discussion came the idea to attend a Police Commissioners meeting and present the idea of a town forum to discuss these issues to the Board of Selectmen.
Last Tuesday evening at the Board of Selectmen meeting, Stephan Behuniak, Democrat member of the Board of Selectmen, presented the idea. It was supported by the entire board and a meeting was scheduled with Town Emergency Management Director Tom Eighmie, the First Selectman and Selectman Behuniak.
On Wednesday evening at the Board of Police Commissioners meeting, Democratic Town Committee Chairman Phil Wilhelmy addressed the Commission and voiced the support of the Democratic Town Committee for the Seymour Police Department.
Wilhelmy stressed the fact that the committee supports all officers in their task in the Town of Seymour.
The Democratic Town Committee will also be interested to know what they can do to assist officers in doing their job.
The Seymour Democratic Town Committee could no longer stay silent on these issues and chose to bring these ideas to the public through the proper channels.
It is hoped that these ideas will be implemented soon and all citizens of the Town of Seymour will embrace this forum and take part in the discussion so we can all understand what we need to do to solve these issues.
