SEYMOUR — The town’s fire marshal is investigating the cause of a house fire Thursday morning that displaced a family of four.
Seymour Fire Marshal Timm Willis said that two people — an adult and a juvenile — were taken to a hospital to get evaluated for possible smoke inhalation. They were released in the afternoon, Willis said.
The fire was reported at 8:08 a.m. on Knorr Avenue near the intersection of Karlak Street.
Willis was the first on scene and saw smoke coming from the single-family house. The occupants — an adult and two juveniles — were outside the burning home, along with the family dog. A cat was later found unharmed, hiding in a bedroom.
The bulk of the fire was in the attic, with flames visible spreading through the roof. A video posted to YouTube shows heavy damage to the home.
“The house is untenable,” Willis said.
The cause is under investigation.
Willis used a garden hose to wet a 100-gallon propane tank that was on site. Firefighters from Beacon Falls and Oxford also responded to the scene. Fire companies from Ansonia and Bethany covered Seymour while the fire was active.
Red Cross also responded.
