Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller: Eversource Isn’t Communicating With Us

SEYMOUR — The Valley Indy interviewed Seymour Kurt Miller at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in an interview that was streamed live to Facebook.

Miller said the town has not been able to get information from Eversource regarding when they might be able to assess damage from Tuesday’s wind storm. About 43 percent of Eversource customers in Seymour are without power.

The town put out the following message at about 1 p.m.

This is First Selectman Kurt Miller with a storm update utilizing the Code Red system.

Unfortunately, we have received very little information coming from Eversource. Public Works has cleared roads to the extent currently possible and unfortunately we must wait for Eversource crews in order to finish the job.

We will put out additional updates when we receive new information and will do so at least once a day until power is restored to Seymour.

For those without water, hoses are available for public use outside Seymour Middle School and Great Hill Hose. A charging station is also available in the gazebo at Great Hill Hose.

Tomorrow, we will open the Middle School from 8 AM to 8 PM so people can shower if they need to. Please be aware that there may be a wait due to COVID restrictions.

Eversource issued a statement at noon saying crews are working around the clock to fix the damage across the state.

We understand our customers’ frustration and know it is an especially challenging time to be without power given the ongoing pandemic and hot summer weather. Our entire Eversource team is dedicated to this effort and is working with an extreme sense of urgency to get all of our customers the power they need,” said Eversource President of Regional Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom.
