Seymour GOP: Local Dems Can Take Their Narrative Elsewhere

The Seymour DTC recently published a press release in the Valley Independent Sentinel aimed at outgoing First Selectman Kurt Miller. The tone of the DTC release is one of utter contempt directed at Mr. Miller for his announcement that he will be resigning as First Selectman to accept a new position. The DTC also felt compelled to submit a list of absurd demands aimed at the appointed future First Selectman.

The DTC press release is yet another damning piece of evidence exhibiting that the DTC has no idea how the Seymour Town Charter works or what the Charter actually states when replacing a First Selectman. If DTC representatives cannot understand the Seymour Town Charter, which unambiguously clarifies how a First Selectman is replaced, then the DTC has no business commenting on the process — never mind publishing a list of unreasonable demands. The Seymour DTC is currently being run by ill-informed young citizens who place impulse and politics above logic and the clearly stated parameters of our controlling town document.

Our little Seymour, Connecticut is not Big City, USA with national political problems. Far from it. Seymour has been run with impeccable professionalism and fiscal acuity by Mr. Miller and his staff. Mr. Miller has made it a point to be highly collaborative with the DTC and its representatives during his almost 10 years as First Selectman. For the DTC to submit such a divisive press release rife with errors to a local news source is incomprehensible.

The DTC can take its narrative elsewhere. The press release shows one of the many reasons why the Seymour Democrats have been consistently defeated by extremely large margins every election cycle and have not won a contested Seymour seat in over a decade. But for the minority representation clause in the Charter, it is highly likely that no Democrat would hold a seat in our town government at all. Judging by this most recently released tripe, it appears the DTC will continue to remain irrelevant in Seymour many more election cycles.

The Seymour RTC invites every moderate Democrat — who once hailed from the Party of Kennedy” — to cast their vote against the new radicals in the Seymour DTC. Send these self-righteous individuals a clear message that their socialist ideology and political ignorance will not be tolerated in Seymour.

Thank you, Kurt Miller, for your steady hand and moving our wonderful community forward. Your leadership will serve as a model for future First Selectmen. Best of luck in your new endeavor!

Respectfully,

The Seymour Republican Town Committee
