Seymour Historical Society Highlights Antique Household Gadgets

Doing household chores is almost never fun, and so there has been a never-ending quest to find better, easier ways to cook and clean and to care for clothes.

The Seymour Historical Society will host a special program on vintage household tools and gadgets from the early 20th century on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m.

The program, A Woman’s Work Is Never Done,” will be hosted by Grace Durgin, who gives presentations on nostalgic tools, clothes and toys to community groups in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

In this program, she will feature more than antique 100 kitchen tools and household helpers that were used by homemakers between 1900 and 1940. The 150 pounds of items on display will range from flat irons to curtain stretchers.

The Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West Street, near the Trinity Episcopal Church.

The program is free to members; the charge for non-members is $3 per person and $5 per couple.

Doors open at 1 p.m. for those who would like to view the museum’s exhibits.
