Live hawks, owls and other birds will be on display at a special event at the Seymour Community Center on Sunday, August 25 at 2 p.m.
The Sharon Audubon Center is home to more than 11 species of birds of prey, including Red-tailed Hawks, Great Horned Owls, Eastern Screech Owls, American Kestrels and Turkey Vultures.
These birds are injured or orphaned and can’t be released back into the wild. Instead, they serve as ambassadors for their species, accompanying Audubon staff members to schools and community events. At this fundraiser for the Seymour Historical Society, a wildlife expert will offer close-up views of at least four of these amazing birds, discuss similarities and differences in the various species, and explain why the raptors and their habitats should continue to be protected.
The Seymour Community Center is located at 20 Pine Street. The admission fee is $5 per person, for Seymour Historical Society members and non-members alike. Valley Coins of Seymour has generously underwritten the costs of this event, which will also feature bird souvenirs for sale.
