Seymour Historical Society Program Focuses On 1950s Baseball

In the 1950s, baseball was still the most popular professional sport and players from that time period – such as Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson and Mickey Mantle – are American legends. Now you can learn more about this golden era in a special program at the Seymour Historical Society on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.

Ansonia’s Rich Marazzi, who will present the program, has authored five baseball books, served as a rules consultant to Major League teams and hosted a sports radio talk show. Last year, he packed the room for an historical look at the best amateur teams from the Naugatuck Valley.

This year, Marazzi will take a nostalgic look at baseball in the 50s, show a video on ballplayers from that decade and highlight players from Connecticut. He’ll also touch on some contemporary issues, such as steroid use and its impact on the baseball record book.

The Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West Street, near the Trinity Episcopal Church. Doors will open at 1 p.m. for those who want good seats or who would like to tour the museum’s exhibits. There is no charge for the program.
