A week after someone set it on fire, the Seymour garbage transfer station could be open for business starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Public Works Director Dennis Rozum said Friday the town was waiting for a final approval from an insurance company.
Police are still investigating the blaze, which was reported at about 7 p.m. May 7.
An small building at the transfer station suffered heavy damage. The window of a machine was busted, too.
In all, the incident caused between $20,000 and $30,000 in damage.
“There was an accelerant, and fences are destroyed, the roof is destroyed, the interior is destroyed, the bathroom, water facilities,” Rozum said, sizing up the extent of the damage.
The public works department has been fielding calls from people asking when the transfer station will open again.
“I think Saturday is a reasonable time to get it prepared and open,” Rozum said. “There was extensive damage and we’re dealing with it.”
Seymour police were not available to comment.
Anyone with information about the fire should call the Seymour Police Department at 203 – 881-7600.
