The Seymour Land Trust’s recently renovated headquarters at Legion Pool may be in violation of the town’s zoning rules, officials said Tuesday.
At issue — a retaining wall that may have been built without a stamped engineer’s approval and a deck that may encroach on town-owned property.
The deck is an issue because it may raise liability concerns with the Town of Seymour.
The Seymour Land Trust is a private organization.
At a Selectmen meeting Tuesday, land trust president Alex Danka said he had just learned of the potential violations.
Members of the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission are scheduled to discuss the matter at a meeting April 12.
Danka told elected officials the building may be forced to close until the land trust can make any corrections. He’s worried because the building has already been booked for a wedding and a private party.
The Valley Indy toured the renovated building March 1. The land trust held a grand opening event to celebrate the renovation March 3.
First Selectman Kurt Miller said the matter was brought to his attention at about 1 p.m. Tuesday by Jim Baldwin, chairman of the town’s P&Z.
Miller said attorneys are looking into the issues and that the town understands the underlining urgency to get the issues resolved.
