Seymour Man Accused Of Attempted Robbery

SEYMOUR — A 24-year-old town resident was accused of trying to rob a man on Main Street July 2.

According to a prepared statement from police, the suspect, Evan Murillo, was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree attempted assault, carrying a dangerous weapon, and sixth-degree attempted larceny.

Police said the victim was walking along Main Street at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when Murillo approached and asked to use the man’s cell phone. When the man said no, Murillo allegedly pulled out a box cutter and demanded “everything the victim had on him,” police said.

The victim didn’t give anything up but started yelling, causing Murillo to flee. The victim was not injured.

Police apprehended Murillo, who was still in the area.

Police said there is a witness in addition to the victim, and that they took possession of a box cutter.

Murillo was scheduled to be arraigned today (July 3).
