Seymour Man Charged With Assaulting Woman, Cat

Two police officers suffered minor injuries while trying to subdue a man who police said began fighting with them as they tried to arrest him.

Police were sent to a Walnut Street residence at 1:54 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a domestic assault.

Police allege that Gregory West, 27, of Seymour, assaulted a woman — and her cat.

He then fought for several minutes with police, according to information from a police incident summary.

Officers used a Taser and their police dog, Havoc, to subdue West.

He was treated at Griffin Hospital for dog bites.

West is charged with four felonies — two counts of assaulting a police officer and single counts of risk of injury to a child and first-degree unlawful restraint.

He was also charged with six misdemeanors — third-degree assault, cruelty to animals, interfering with a emergency call, interfering with police, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.

He was arraigned in Superior Court Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in court again June 30. He is being held in jail in Bridgeport in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
