Seymour Police Officer Brian Anderson was promoted to detective, after a unanimous vote by the Board of Police Commissioners Thursday night.
Anderson will start as detective on Aug. 27.
“I think he’s a great choice,” Chief Michael Metzler said after the vote. “He’s a class act. He’s a gentleman. He always represents himself well.”
Anderson started working for the Seymour Police Department in 1983, as a supernumerary officer.
He became full-time in 2003.
The move is part of a restructuring of the detective division, Metzler said.
The department will no longer have a student resource officer, and will instead have one extra detective. The department will still have a youth officer.
Metzler said Detective Scott Nihill will become the court liaison and evidence officer as part of the changes.
Anderson declined to comment on the promotion after the meeting.
