Seymour PD Has Mold Problem

Town officials are figuring out how to deal with a mold problem inside the Seymour Police Department.

The mold is not hazardous, according to companies brought in to investigate.

“It’s not a serious problem now, but we don’t want it to get serious,” First Selectman Paul Roy said.

The mold has been appearing on the surface of walls on the department’s upper floor, according to police spokesman Lt. Paul Satkowski.

The mold is the result of leaks in the building, believed to be from the roof or door frames.

“As of right now, we don’t believe it’s anything dangerous,” Satkowski said.

The Seymour Board of Selectmen has agreed to pay for the repairs from using money from its “buildings and repairs” budget.

Price quotes from contracting companies were expected at the board’s meeting Tuesday night, but have not been received.

The board tabled discussion of the quotes until its next meeting.

The cost of the project will include mold cleanup, as well as repairing the leaks that caused the mold.

The police department has been in its Franklin Street office since 2001. The building was a refurbished office building that formerly housed the Seymour Specialty Wire Co., according to an article in the New Haven Register.
