Ahoy Mateys! A Pirate Be Talking In Seymour, Aye

Pirate ships that sailed along the Connecticut coast in the 17th and 18th centuries will be the focus of a Seymour Historical Society program on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m.

Legend has it that pirates buried treasure along Connecticut’s shoreline, though none has ever been found.

But it’s a fact that infamous mariners such as Blackbeard and Captain Kidd sailed in the Sound and in other state waters.

In this program, Renwick Griswold, a University of Hartford associate professor and author of the book Connecticut Pirates and Privateers,” will tell tales of treasure and treachery involving these seafaring outlaws. He’ll also discuss Connecticut’s fleet of state-sanctioned privateers that conducted raids on British ships during the American Revolution.

The Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West Street, near the Trinity Episcopal Church.

The program is free to Seymour Historical Society members and $5 for non-members. Seating is limited to 65 people, so arrive early to claim a seat. Doors open at 1 p.m. For more information, contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), call 203 – 881-2156 or visit http://www.seymourhistoricalsociety.org.
