Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller is hosting the third Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event to benefit Seymour Pink Oct. 14.
“I am glad to keep the tradition going and have the opportunity to grow the event,” Miller said.
The basis of the event is for men to wear pink or even high heeled shoes and walk approximately 1 mile to raise awareness for breast cancer.
“The event gives the town a chance to give back to an organization that does so much for our community,” Miller said of Seymour Pink.
Opening ceremonies are set for 12:30 p.m. at the Seymour Community Center. The walk will begin there, go through downtown Seymour, and conclude at Hot Tamale’s Restaurant where a light lunch will be served for walkers.
Costumes are encouraged for participants.
“I can assure you, I have planned my outfit already and will be dressed to impress,” Miller said, adding, “Last year I shaved one of my legs for the cause, so I don’t know how I can outdo myself this year, but I’m going to try!”
Awards will be given for best dressed, best shoes, and highest fundraiser.
Complete rules and registration forms may be found on the Town of Seymour website. The registration form is also posted at the end of this story.
Early-bird registration at a discounted rate ends on Oct. 4, 2012, so participants are encouraged to register soon!
