Seymour Police Chase Man After Traffic Stop

Seymour police chased a man on foot Thursday evening after they received a report from police in Ansonia that an assault suspect might be driving through town in a minivan.

The assault was reported earlier Thursday in Ansonia. Few details were not available Friday.

After the assault, Ansonia police notified area departments to be on the lookout for a minivan seen leaving the scene.

Seymour police saw a car matching that description on Pearl Street, near the intersection of Maple Street, about 8:20 p.m.

Seymour police pulled over the car, according to Lt. Paul Satkowski.

The driver, who was not identified, was the suspect Ansonia police wanted. During the traffic stop, the passenger opened the door and ran away, toward Maple Street.

Seymour police chased him on foot, but lost him on Maple Street. A police dog from Derby was brought in to track the man, but they were unable to locate him.

The driver of the car was taken to Ansonia police for processing. Further information was not available on Friday.

One of the Seymour officers suffered a leg injury during the chase, and will be out of work for a few days, Satkowski sad.
