Seymour Police, Commissioners Donate To Memorial Day Parade

The Board of Police Commissioners and the Seymour Police Department donated $1,000 to the Seymour Remembers Committee, which plans Seymour’s annual Memorial Day Parade.

Police Chief Michael Metzler stopped by Town Hall on Wednesday, March 19 and hand-delivered the check to First Selectman Kurt Miller.

Metzler brought a request to the Board of Police Commissioners at their March 17 meeting to make a donation of funds gathered from their clothing donations boxes.

It was approved unanimously.

We decided as a department that we wanted to give back to the town because they’ve done so much for us over the years. We thought this was a great way to do that and honor the veterans who have fought for our freedom at the same time,” Metzler said.

Al Yagovane, chairman of the Seymour Remembers Committee, has been requesting donations for the past several months because donations have declined over the past few years.

Of the donation, Yagovane said, The Committee would like to thank the Chief of Police and his staff who donated to the Seymour Memorial Day Parade Committee. It’s greatly appreciated.”

Although many generous donors have contributed including the Seymour Police Department, the Committee is still seeking donations of any denomination.

Anyone interested in making a donation should send checks made out to the Seymour Memorial Day Committee to the First Selectman’s Office at Town Hall.
