SEYMOUR — A man found dead in the Naugatuck River on May 28 has been identified, police announced on Monday.
Angel Jose Garcia, 34, was discovered under the Broad Street bridge during last month’s Memorial Day Parade.
Police said his next of kin has been notified. Garcia was thought to be homeless, according to a statement Monday from Seymour police.
The cause of death is still under investigation by the medical examiner. Part of that probe includes toxicology tests.
“They (the medical examiner’s office) said they did not see any major signs of obvious trauma,” Chief John Bucherati told The Valley Indy last month. “There were no gun shot wounds, or knife wounds, or anything like that.” The chief noted at the time the medical examiner’s work was not done.
The investigation remains open.
