Update On Friday Night Fatal Hit And Run In Seymour

SEYMOUR — An update on last night’s fatal hit and run in Seymour:
(Press release from Seymour police)

Last night at approximately 6:05 pm, Seymour Police, along with Seymour Fire and Seymour Ambulance, responded to the area of Bank St (Rt. 67) and the entrance to Klarides Village Shopping Center for car vs pedestrian crash.

At the time of the crash, Officer Dedrick Wilcox of the Seymour Police Department was working the traffic detail at Miller-Ward Funeral Home and was assisting two (2) pedestrians, later identified as James Tamborra and his wife, Barbara Tamborra, both 81, of Shelton, cross Bank St. Both had just left a wake at the funeral home.

Traffic on the westbound side of Bank St had stopped for the Officer and when he tried to stop a vehicle traveling eastbound on Bank St, it approached them at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for the Officer, who was signaling for the vehicle to stop.

The vehicle almost struck the Officer, who was able to move out of the vehicles way, before it struck Mr. and Mrs. Tamborra and continued on without stopping.

The vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Bank St towards Rt. 8. The vehicle is described as a dark SUV and investigators were able to make a determination that it is a 2014 to 2016 Acura MDX based on evidence left at the scene and cameras in the area.

The vehicle has frontend damage to its driver’s side headlight, to its frontend on the driver’s side and the hood. Investigators are also following up on some leads. Due to the severity of their injuries to both victims were taken to Waterbury area hospitals.

Mr. Tamborra was transported to Waterbury Hospital and later died due to his injuries and Mrs. Tamborra was transported St. Mary’s Hospital where she is in serious condition.

Seymour Ambulance transported both victims.

The crash is being investigated by the Seymour Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team with assistance from the Seymour Police Department Detective Bureau and the CT State Police’s CARS Unit.

Seymour Police Commander David Parratt, who is the primary investigator, is asking if anyone witnessed the crash or might have information on the vehicle or its whereabouts to please call him at (203) 881 7610 or work cell number at (203) 915‑2517. Any assistance from the public will be greatly appreciated.
