SEYMOUR — Officers were sent to school buildings Friday after law enforcement learned of a possible threat against a school.
At about 1 p.m. Friday, the district’s school resource officer learned about a suspicious social media post. The author of the post claimed that he or she had heard from a friend that someone was planning to “shoot up” an unspecified school in town.
Out of an abundance of caution, schools were briefly put in “stay put” mode, which, as the term implies, requires the school population to stay where they are.
Officers were sent to the schools to bolster safety. The incident unfolded toward the end of the school day.
Police said Friday night they are investigating the incident, and had yet to determine whether the threat was real or fake.
Police said they’ll assign extra officers when school resumes as a precaution.
