Seymour Police Probing Unspecified ‘Issue’ At Public Works

FILESeymour First Selectman Kurt Miller asked Seymour police to involve an unspecified issue” at the town’s Department of Public Works this week.

Miller would not go into specifics regarding what it involves.

He said he doubts the matter rises to the level of criminal wrongdoing, but that a detective is heading the probe to determine how to proceed.

He said the investigation may result in employee discipline.

There’s no (theft of) money involved, nothing like that,” Miller said. It’s just something we needed to have looked at and the best way to have it done was have one of our detectives look into it.”

Miller said he asked police to look into the matter Monday (Oct. 26.)

The Valley Indy left a message with the police department’s spokesman, Deputy Chief Paul Satkowski, Wednesday afternoon.

It’s been something that we’ve been looking at for a couple weeks,” Miller said. This just didn’t come out of the blue.”

Miller said he couldn’t provide more details because the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, he said, the results of the investigation will be revealed fully.

While he said he doesn’t suspect criminal activity, he referred the matter to police to make a definitive determination.

By sending the detectives in they look at the facts and they determine what’s what,” he said. In this situation we felt it was warranted to have a professional investigator come in, analyze the situation and help us determine a course of action.”

Miller said the investigation is not connected to a separate police probe of financial discrepancies” involving a former town employee reported by the New Haven Register earlier this month.
