Seymour Pop Warner Team Finishes 7-1

The Seymour Jr. Midget Pop Warner Football team completed a very successful regular season with a 7 – 1 mark.

The Tigers defeated Woodland 32 – 0, Bridgeport 30 – 14, Newington 30 – 0, Derby 40 – 12, Trumbull 37 – 0, Naugatuck 27 – 0 and Amity 35 – 6. 

Their only loss came against Shelton when several key tigers were out with minor injuries. The Tiger O” was led by Q.B. Chris Vankamerik whose physical ability combined with his understanding of the offensive scheme allowed the Tiger offense to operate on all cylinders from game 1.

Hard nosed running backs Steven Persson and Wade Prajer pounded opposing defenses with their aggressive running styles. Tight end Joe Salemme and wide receivers Kevin Loschiavo and Christian Thurmond hooked up with Vankamerik for 15 touchdowns between them.

The offensive line of Noah Lisewski, Jack Briggs, John D’Agostino, Julian Falcioni and Andy Temple opened up huge holes for the running game and provided outstanding protection in the passing game.

The Tiger defense dominated recording 4 shutouts during the regular season. 

The defensive line of Daniel Hink, C.J. Falcioni, Matt Vartelas, Lisewski and D’Agostino stuffed their opponents running game and got after the Q.B. against the pass. Linebackers Briggs, Prajer, Julian Falcioni and Greg Chase-Patrick were solid from game one and were the keys to the Tigers defensive success. The secondary of VanKamerik, Persson, Loschiavo and Nick Lombardi blanketed opposing receivers picking off several passes during the season.

Other players who played a big part in the Tigers success are J.T. Cretella, Jim Winger, Janos Lobb, Blake Kinne and Rich Sciongay.
