The Seymour Public Library hosts Historian John Cilio for a free, in-person presentation, “A Psychedelic Generation Gap: How The Sixties Counterculture Changed America’s Future” at the Seymour Public Library on Wed. August 21, 2024 at 6:30 P.M.
Registration is not required.
The 1960s were one of the most disorderly and divisive decades in world history. The gulf between their parents who suffered the hardships of the depression and the sacrifices of WWII and these youths, growing up during a period of peaceful, rapid economic growth, revealed a tremendous gap in perspectives.
John Cilio will highlight how the young people of the 1960s questioned the previous generation’s authority and outlooks and exhibited their disapproval of the racial, ethnic, and political injustices they witnessed. A new, psychedelic inspired music delivered lyrics and energy crucial to invigorate political ideas and common experiences. The unrest persisted until the Vietnam war ended and the world began to change.
John Cilio is a historian, storyteller, member of the Organization of American Historians and a member of the Association for the Study of Connecticut History.
This presentation is free and all are welcome. Registration is not required. The Seymour Public Library is located at 46 Church St., Seymour, CT 06483. Please call the library at 203 – 888-3903 or email sgarvey@biblio.org for more information.
