Maria Warcholik of Seymour has been named a 2012 recipient of Masonicare’s prestigious Norma J. Brandt Nursing Scholarship.
Ms. Warcholik was one of seven 2012 scholarship recipients honored at a reception held Aug. 24 at Masonicare at Ashlar Village in Wallingford.
She is pursuing an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing at Naugatuck Valley Community College.
The Norma J. Brandt Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 through a generous gift to The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut, the philanthropic affiliate of Masonicare.
John O. Brandt, Jr., a Mason from Putnam Lodge No. 46 in South Woodstock, established the fund in memory of his late wife, Norma, a registered nurse with a life-long dedication to the nursing profession.
To qualify, applicants must be a Masonicare employee, the child or grandchild of a Masonicare employee, or be affiliated with a Masonic organization, either as a member or as a child or grandchild of a member. Ms. Warcholik is an employee of Masonicare at Newtown in Newtown.
Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to the nursing profession and emulate Norma’s “love of nursing, positive attitude, and warm, giving nature.” This year, in addition to the seven scholarships awarded, six previous recipients were awarded additional funding for the current academic year.
