Seymour Reviews Latest ‘Phased Opening,’ Food Drive, WPCA Meets Thursday

SEYMOUR — The Seymour Board of Selectmen met Tuesday. First Selectman Kurt Miller reviewed the latest operating hours of various town agencies, including the library and town hall.

Miller than reviewed tax collection rates so far, which is slightly lagging (most likely due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 virus).

The complete meeting video is embedded above.

Miller said the number of new COVID infections in Seymour has slowed over the last week or so. The stats are tracked by the Naugatuck Valley Health District.

The Selectmen also discussed waiving the bid requirement for a server cluster,” related to the functioning of the town’s (and school’s) IT infrastructure. Town attorney Richard Buturla said the board was within its right under the Town Charter to award the $121,950 to Digital Back Office due to a variety of factors described by the town’s IT director. Go to the 30-minute mark of the video above to watch Buturla explain his reasoning.

The board voted 7 – 0 to award the contract.

The Selectmen also voted to make two appointments. The meeting agenda did not name the appointments, nor did the Selectmen identify the appointments during the meeting. The Selectmen also approved tax refunds. The dollar amount was not mentioned in the meeting or on the meeting agenda.

Also during the meeting, Deputy Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis noted the Seymour Department of Public Works has started a Facebook page. Click here to follow it.

She encouraged people to check it out.

Drugonis also noted that members of the Seymour Water Pollution Control Authority are scheduled to meet 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18 to discuss their new budget. The budget has been a subject of debate among members of the Board of Selectmen, who complained it contains no details while increasing rates.
