SEYMOUR — A school bus carrying nine Seymour High School students collided with a motorcycle just before 7 a.m. Thursday, but none of the students were injured.

According to a statement released by Superintendent of Schools Michael Wilson, the accident occurred at 6:50 a.m. at South Main Street and Scott Avenue. Bus 39 was transporting nine SHS students to school at the time of the accident.

According to Deputy Police Chief Roberto Rinaldi, an investigation of the crash revealed that the All-Star Transportation school bus was traveling east on Scott Avenue and the motorcycle was traveling south on South Main Street. The school bus stopped for the stop sign and then proceeded onto South Main Street at the same time as the motorcycle was coming upon the intersection and the two collided.

Police identified the motorcycle operator as Matthew Zaccagnini, 26, of Beacon Falls, who sustained some minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene, according to Rinaldi. The school bus driver, Barbara Cline, 55, of Beacon Falls, was issued an infraction for failure to grant the right of way. Cline was not injured.

Seymour police, fire, and ambulance were sent to the scene. SHS Assistant Principal Ernie DiStasi, and Director of Security Richard responded as well. Seymour EMS evaluated the students at the scene as a precautionary measure, according to Wilson. The bus company sent another bus to the scene to transport the students to school.

Wilson said when the students arrived at school they were evaluated again by the school nurse for physical injury. Social workers and a school counselor were also on hand.

The nurse, social worker and school counselor let the students know that they would be available throughout the day for any physical or emotional need which may arise,” Wilson said.
