Seymour Schools To Open Friday

FILESeymour schools will open Friday, Feb. 15, a week after the Blizzard of 2013 blew into the Valley.

Schools Superintendent Christine Syriac sent an e‑mail to parents Thursday announcing the opening. Schools had been closed last Friday (Feb. 8) and all of this week due to the cleanup required from the blizzard.

There will be school on Friday, February 15,” Syriac wrote. I wanted to let you know that we have checked on the roof situation at each of our schools. Every roof is fine in regard to snow capacity.”

Syriac also thanked parents and staff for your patience and understanding over the past week.”

Friday’s opening will mean that the last day of school — barring any further cancellations this year — will be June 27.

The school board voted Wednesday night to open school Monday (Feb. 18) and Tuesday (Feb. 19), which had previously been scheduled as days off.

The board made the move to preserve the district’s spring recess, currently scheduled for April 15 to April 19. But Syriac said more snowstorms may mean having to use up days during the April break for school.

I would love to tell you that there will be no more closings this school year however it is too soon to state that,” Syriac wrote in an e‑mail to parents Thursday about the calendar changes.

Syriac’s e‑mail is posted below.
