On May 7, a group of Seymour High School students donated five picnic tables they had built to various locations in downtown Seymour.
Paul Lucke, Assistant Principal at Seymour High School, wrote and received a grant from the Valley Community Foundation for the lumber and hardware for this project.
Students in three Construction Systems courses taught by Mr. Joe Perrucci and Mr. Michael Stock researched different picnic table designs and material costs. They then created a materials list and a budget for the tables.
Students utilized a variety of carpentry related equipment to produce the final product. The Construction Systems classes are currently working on Adirondack chairs and will utilize the remaining Valley Community Foundation grant funds to donate four Adirondack chairs to the downtown area.
According to Mr. Lucke, “These projects are a win for everyone. The students get to do research and hands-on work while taking pride in the finished product and contributing to their community.”
Two tables were donated to the Senior Center, one to Town Hall, one to the Seymour Ambulance Association and one to the Seymour Skate Park.
Mr. Lucke and First Selectman Kurt Miller would like to thank the Valley Community Foundation for providing the funds for this project.
First Selectman Miller was “thrilled” by the gift and added, “These picnic tables are a great addition to the downtown area and will hopefully see many years of use. I would like to thank Mr. Lucke, Mr. Perucci, Mr. Stock and all the students who made this generous donation possible.”
