Each and every day I am thankful for my family, friends and the privilege of serving our incredible students, faculty and staff of the Seymour Public Schools.
The following are details about projects that various Seymour school staff and students performed to raise money and collect food for holiday drives.
Heather Brown, SHS social studies teacher, and her students raised $565 for our veterans by selling T‑shirts thanking our veterans.
The money will be divided between “No Vet Left Behind” and the town of Seymour’s Pearson Fund, which gives Christmas checks to active members of the military.
Lisa Cheney, SHS English teacher, students, faculty and staff exceeded their goal of collecting 100 meal packs for the Holiday Food Drive.
They collected the following:
- 124 bags/boxes of stuffing
- 118 boxes of instant potatoes or cans of yams
- 128 cans of corn
- 119 cans of other veggies
- 131 jars of gravy
- 124 cans of cranberry sauce
- 144 boxed desserts or quick bread mix
They collected a total of 888 items, not counting three huge boxes of food that was collected that was not on the Holiday Meal Pack list!
Basilla Stevens, Gold team members and students held a Turkey Drive.
They collected the following:
- 148 turkeys
- Canned food items
- $193 in cash and gift cards
The food items that were collected by the high school community will be brought to the middle school so that the turkeys can be added and a
Thanksgiving dinner will be complete.
These food items will be provided to our school community, the Seymour/Oxford Food Bank, the Trinity Church Community Dinner and Spooner House.
The high school and middle school students, faculty and staff are grateful for the generosity and support that they received to help those families that are less fortunate and to help them have a memorable Thanksgiving.
